Your tutor is Kathleen Murphy Murgatroyd & Bean. Kathleen will be teaching both Saturday 1st July and Sunday 2nd July, book both workshops and save £10.
Known for her use of bold, colourful embroidery with a tale to tell, Kathleen Murphy will introduce you to the joy of doodling in stitch.
Using a free-form approach which aims to dispel some of the fears and rules often associated with traditional hand embroidery, you will work towards a contemporary stitched sampler. Along the way you will explore the idea of stitch families and thread variation as a means to creating your own stories in thread, pattern and colour.
Suitable for all levels
About Kathleen… “On an apple tree wooded hill near a winding ‘Shire river sits the workshop of Murgatroyd & Bean.
Murgatroyd (the Owl) & Bean (the Hare) have known each other since they were but a chick and a leveret. At a young age they were apprenticed to the applewood’s needlesmith, Meles-Meles the badger, where they learnt their stitch craft and became friends with the stitch-fingered Human, Kathleen.”
In their workshop they make all sorts of stitched curiosities inspired by the surrounding landscape and tales from the Wood.
Kathleen handcrafts textile curiosities in bright colours and embroidery stitches inspired by folklore and fairy tales. Her one-of-a-kind pieces are created using recycled fabric, hand embroidery and found objects.
